The CellMaker PLUSTM system and the HybridBag have been designed to enable you to culture any cell type with full control of dissolved oxygen and carbon dioxide concentration with pH monitoring and control (optional). In recent years there has been a significant increase in the demand for mammalian cell culture procedures in the development and production of biopharmaceuticals. Our studies have shown that the control of dO2 is essential to achieve optimal cell concentrations and viabilities for mammalian and insect cells. Too little oxygen and cells do not achieve the concentrations required for seeding large-scale bioreactors. Too much oxygen and the cells undergo apoptosis. The culture of E. coli and Pichia are very straightforward and can be performed without the need for automated dO2 or pH control. They just need plenty of oxygen and the CellMaker PLUS with the CellexusBag can achieve oxygen mass transfer rates similar to a stirred bioreactor and considerably greater than a shaker flask2.
